Introduction to the Project

As part of my IDS 4 final project at Lawrence Technological University I am developing a Downtown Detroit tour.  This tour will be guided and accompanied by a QR-Code system as well as traditional signage.  The central hub and start of this tour will be located within Capitol Park.  Please leave your comments and opinions on each location, this blog will be used during my final presentation to demonstrate the bar-code system.  Thank-you everybody.

Comerica Park & Ford Field

The Urban Village - Comerica Park

Comerica Park itself is built around the configuration of the playing field. All planning efforts established fan sight lines as the highest priority. The surrounding "outbuildings," however, conform to the property boundaries of Montcalm, Witherell, Adams, and Brush Streets.
As one enters these boundaries, Comerica Park appears rooted at the center of an urban village, a village that includes shops, restaurants, offices, and other attractions. Eight, two- and three-story buildings of varying sizes and heights make up this village of outbuildings which houses many of the service facilities surrounding the park. Roughly 70,000 square feet of retail space is included and another 36,000 square feet is dedicated to Tigers offices. The result is a landscape that blends into the surrounding street life of Foxtown.
And with no upper deck outfield seats, no ballpark offers a better view of a downtown skyline than Comerica Park.

Ford Field Brief History

Ford Field, the new home of the Detroit Lions, is comprised of approximately 1.85 million square feet with four levels of suites, a level of club seating, and a ground level designated for restaurants, concessions and retail.
The unique design incorporates the old Hudson’s warehouse (established in the 1920’s) as part of the industry-leading sports and entertainment development that will include banquet facilities, restaurants, office space, retail services, food courts, lounge areas and all private suites.
The $500 million complex boasts a seven-story atrium within the warehouse. At the end of the atrium (the southeast corner of the stadium) is a glass wall, which provides a picturesque view of the Detroit skyline.
